Blast Friday Concert Series Coming to Downtown Clearwater
Time to be entertained by another great live music season of Blast Friday in Downtown Clearwater.
Clearwater’s Blast Friday begins January 26 and is held from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on Cleveland Street between Osceola and East avenues and in Station Square Park. The free concert series is held the last Friday of the month from January to May. Blast Friday is in its eighth season and is sponsored by the city of Clearwater and the Downtown Development Board. The concert series is presented by Bank of America and produced by Ruth Eckerd Hall.
Along with the live music and national acts, each Blast Friday hosts food trucks and vendors serving a specialty food, beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages. There’s a beer garden at Station Square Park, 612 Cleveland St., with live music and a sampling of New Belgium Brewing. A local art experience is also featured at the event.
The music gets cooking Friday, January 26 when veteran and accomplished saxophonist Richard Elliot performs. On the January 26 Blast Friday, the city of Clearwater will also promote going live with its new website, DowntownClearwater.com. City staff and volunteers will hand out free DowntownClearwater.com sunglasses. A photo booth will be set up for people to take free photos wearing their DowntownClearwater.com sunglasses.
City staff will also encourage people in attendance to take photos of where they find “Beauty Beyond the Beach” in Downtown Clearwater. Photos tagged #DowntownClearwater on Instagram will be judged for creativity by city staff. The top five images will be voted on by city staff for a chance to win gift certificates from Downtown Clearwater merchants and event organizers.
Blast Friday continues February 23 with The Romantics, who were chart toppers in the 1980s with the singles “What I Like About You,” “Talking in Your Sleep” and “One in a Million.”
March 30 brings Billy Joel Legends Lords of 52nd Street who were the members of Billy Joel’s band during a significant period in the Piano Man’s musical career from 1976 to 1981. The band includes multi-instrumentalist Richie Cannata, drummer Liberty DeVitto and guitartist Russell Javors.
April 27 brings the 10,000 Maniacs to Downtown Clearwater’s Blast Friday. The band will perform songs from their hit albums, including In My Tribe, Blind Man’s Zoo and Our Time in Eden.
May 25 features a taste of Home Cookin’ with the Greg Billings Band and the Black Honkeys. Both bands are a driving force in the local music scene and bring a strong punch of rocking soul, funk and rhythm and blues.
