Park free, ride free program planned for spring break in Clearwater

CLEARWATER – With spring break just around the corner, local and county agencies are working together to offset the annual increase in congestion to and from the beach.

Officials are hoping a new “park free, ride free” marketing plan will induce residents and visitors alike to park in downtown and hop on a trolley for a day’s entertainment on Clearwater Beach.

Zane Adam, with the city’s planning and development department, appeared before city council members on Jan. 29 during a workshop at city hall, seeking approval for a funding agreement with the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority to provide enhanced Jolley Trolley service from Feb. 19 through April 29 at a cost of $65,000.

According to Adam, the additional funds will allow users to park in the Harborview Center and City hall lots for free during the season, and take the Jolley Trolley to the beach, with a complimentary day pass.

The service will run from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday
