Sip & Stroll . . . and Strum in The District “Welcoming The Tampa Bay Ukulele Society”

The District welcomes The Tampa Bay Ukulele Society! The 2,900 members strong organization celebrates and educates on the instrument, roughly translated from Hawaiian as “jumping flea” (probably “noting” those fast fingers on the cords).

Developed in our 50th state in the late 1800’s by Portuguese immigrants from Madeira, the ukulele is undergoing its own renaissance of sorts. Youtube videos by professional “uke” players are getting millions of views.
