Daydreaming: Niki Butcher's Hand-Painted Photography
Daydreaming in Downtown Clearwater!
Experience the beautiful and sometimes quirky aspects of our world through the eyes of a thoughtful optimist at “Daydreaming: Niki Butcher’s Hand-Painted Photography”. Through her black and white photography, Niki captures places and people that stand out as unique, endangered, and authentic. But what sets her work apart is her use of color as she breathes life and imagination into these photographed scenes, creating a picture of life far beyond what a camera could capture.
“Daydreaming” features over 60 images created over five decades of hand-painted photography. Discover a view of the world that adds a bit more color, a good dose of humor, and an infusion of positivity.
“I am passionate about the art of creating hand-painted, black and white photography. I love to express myself by adding color, that may not be true to the original scene, yet evokes a particular fleeting moment that I felt at the time. I delight in the fact that I am able to combine a technique that was once popular, but is now nearly forgotten. I am honored that I have had the opportunity to document Florida’s scenic landscapes and historical architectural icons for generations to come.” – Niki Butcher

This past summer, the Tampa Bay Times and the City of Clearwater Community Redevelopment Agency teamed to present True Florida, a photo and essay contest. It was inspired by two art exhibits on display at the Clearwater Main Public Library: the “America’s Everglades Through the Lens of Clyde Butcher” photo exhibit (which ended in May) and the “Daydreaming: Niki Butcher’s Hand-Painted Photography” exhibit (through February 2023).
