The City of Clearwater approved international consulting design firm Stantec to provide architecture and engineering services on Imagine Clearwater, a Community Vision Plan for the Downtown Waterfront. Imagine Clearwater is a plan to reactivate the city’s waterfront and downtown in efforts to spur economic development. The Stantec team is currently working to provide master plan concept validation and pre-design services. The team recently finished several noise studies of the existing band shell at Coachman Park and are evaluating this information and its impact on the overall masterplan concept.

Clearwater Seeks Artists to Design Downtown Sidewalk Chalk Art

The city of Clearwater’s Community Redevelopment Agency is seeking artists to design a series of chalk art designs to be on display along Cleveland Street during a special VIP gallery tour.

On April 21 from 1 to 4 p.m., Salvador Dali Museum members will be conducting a tour of three galleries in Downtown Clearwater, with local food and beverages at each stop, live local music and talks with gallery owners and the city’s mayor.

Artists will be selected to create chalk art designs that will be on display along Cleveland Street. Each selected artist will create a design in front of each gallery and/or a series of artwork along the route.

Design Theme – The city of Clearwater recently adopted a new brand to highlight its natural beauty and location. The city’s tagline is: Bright and Beautiful • Bay to Beach. The desired artwork and theme should exemplify how the city and Downtown Clearwater are bright and beautiful. The attached map depicts the specific locations of the galleries and the path that the group will travel along from one location to the next.

Compensation – An honorarium of $500 per artist will be provided as compensation for the selected artwork.

City of Clearwater, FL: Clearwater’s Inaugural Bay to Beach Music & Arts Festival Will Bring Top Rated Artists to Coachman Park

The Bay 2 Beach Music & Arts Festival Presented by Coors Light features multi-genre music from a variety of top-rated national recording artists sharing the spotlight with an immersive art experience, all connecting Clearwater from bay to beach. It’s the vision behind Clearwater’s newest Music & Arts Festival taking place April 26-29 at various places including Coachman Park, Clearwater Beach and Downtown Clearwater. There will be a variety of local and national musicians performing, as well as local artists selling and showcasing the arts and culture of Clearwater.

This electrifying weekend gets kick-started at America’s No. 1 beach at 6:30 p.m. with a beach party featuring live music and the Sunsets at Pier 60 festival. Friday night continues with Ruth Eckerd Hall’s Blast Friday on April 27 in Downtown Clearwater. Performing on the Cleveland Street stage will be 10,000 Maniacs, one of the most enduring bands from the early “alternative rock” movement. The night’s activities will also include food trucks and vendors serving a variety of food and beverages including wine and beer. Other local artists will also be performing to keep the crowd jamming out and pumped up for the weekend festivities.

On Saturday, April 28, the action moves to Coachman Park along Downtown Clearwater’s beautiful waterfront, where visitors will be treated to live music and an art walk. Andy Grammer is headlining along with top support bands LOCASH and Parachute.

LOCASH – County music duo made up of singer/songwriters Chris Lucas and Preston best known for hits like “I know Somebody,” “I Love This Life” and more. The duo was nominated for Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM) New Vocal Duo or Group of the Year, Country Music Television (CMT) award for Duo Video of the Year and Country Music Association Award for Vocal Duo of the Year.
Andy Grammer – Singer, songwriter and record producer with well know hits like “Keep Your Head Up,” “Fine By Me” and “Honey, I’m Good.” Six of Grammer’s hits are certified gold or better.
On Sunday, April 29, the musical entertainment will be headlined by Hunter Hayes with supporting artists including Jerrod Neimann, Stephanie Quayle and Aubrey Wollett

Hunter Hayes – An American country music singer/songwriter is also multi-instrumental, being proficient at more than 30 instruments. Hayes’ self-titled debut album reached No.7 on the Billboard 200 and No.1 on the Top Country Albums. He is best known for hits like “Wanted,” “Invisible,” and more. Hayes has been nominated for five Grammy Awards and won the CMA Award for New Artist of the Year in 2012.

Jerrod Neimann – An American country music singer and songwriter, Jerrod Neimann has had 10 Top 40 entries on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts. Known for hits such as “Lover, Lover,” “What Do You Want,” “Drink to That All Night,” and more, Neimann has sold more than 20 million albums and downloads.

Stephanie Quayle – Singer/songwriter is known for hits like “Drinking with Dolly,” which topped the CMT Music and Billboard charts, and “Winnebago.” Quayle has also been named “Top 10 Artists to Watch in 2017,” by Rolling Stone Magazine.

Nate Currin – Described as an artist and a storyteller, Nate Currin has been nominated for an Independent Music Award and four International Music Awards. Currin took home three of those music awards, including “Songwriter of the Year.” Currin is best known for hits like “You and I Are Ghosts,” “Birmingham,” and more.

Clearwater seeking service board member

CLEARWATER – The city of Clearwater is seeking a resident to serve upon its Civil Service Board for a three-year term. The Civil Service Board is composed of five members. Two are appointed by the city manager, city employees elect two and those four members appoint the fifth member. Currently, one of the city manager appointments is vacant.

City Staff to Present Downtown Zoning and Design Standards at Public Meeting

The city of Clearwater’s Planning and Development Department staff will host a public meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 28 at the Main Library, 100 N. Osceola Ave., in Downtown Clearwater, on updates to the Downtown Zoning District and the Downtown Design Standards. 

The city’s Community Redevelopment Agency will also present strategies on the implementation of the Clearwater Downtown Redevelopment Plan. 

The Downtown Zoning District and Downtown Design Standards specify the criteria for regulating uses, building placement, building height, parking and vehicle circulation, pedestrian and landscape improvement and building façade design standards. 

The Clearwater Downtown Redevelopment Plan presents a long-term vision for Downtown Clearwater and includes an implementation plan with the goal of making existing properties and buildings more viable while preserving the Downtown Clearwater character.

Clearwater alarm ordinance updated

CLEARWATER – As it works to achieve its second-century goals, the city has updated its security alarm system ordinance to reflect the new digitization of the program.

Clearwater Police Chief Dan Slaughter appeared before the Clearwater City Council on March 12 at City Hall to seek approval for the amendments to the ordinance, which requires all owners of a security alarm system for which city police officers must respond in case of a break-in.

The city requires that all residents and business owners who have a security alarm system to register with the police department. For the past 20 years, the police department had handled all permits and registrations manually.

Stantec Selected to Implement the Imagine Clearwater Project

The City of Clearwater approved international consulting design firm Stantec to provide architecture and engineering services to implement Imagine Clearwater, a Community Vision Plan for the Downtown Waterfront. The work order that Stantec has now is for review of certain aspects including kayak launching, orientation of the bandshell and the estuary. The plans that will be delivered in May will be at 15% completion.

Imagine Clearwater is a plan to reactivate the city’s waterfront and downtown in an effort to spur economic development. The Stantec team will provide engineering, landscape architecture, and architecture services for the project. A public meeting to present the plan to the community and stakeholders is being planned for summer 2018 and a groundbreaking is expected in 2019.

The Imagine Clearwater project examines the redevelopment of a 19-acre waterfront and downtown property that stretches from the existing Coachman Park and public parking lot to its west, to the Harborview Center. The Clearwater Main Library is along the northeast boundary of the site. The Stantec team will implement the plan by creating a waterfront destination of local and regional significance to include a downtown waterfront performance bandshell, activating the waterfront for greater activity, and connecting the waterfront to the rest of Clearwater.

Dave Kemper, Stantec’s managing principal for the project said, “We are pleased to have this opportunity to assist the City in executing this important project. We look forward to being a key partner in helping Clearwater deliver on its vision to spur economic and social vibrancy to downtown”.

In Florida, Stantec has 14 Florida offices that include professionals providing services in: civil, transportation, and electrical engineering; planning and landscape architecture; architecture and interior design; program and project management; environmental services; and construction engineering and inspection.

Clearwater voters re-elect Hoyt Hamilton, usher in newcomer David Allbritton for two City Council seats

CLEARWATER — Voters on Tuesday filled two City Council seats by keeping a well-known incumbent and ushering in a newcomer who is no stranger to City Hall.

Incumbent Hoyt Hamilton kept hold of Seat 5 by getting 9,537 votes. That’s 79 percent of the vote, according to unofficial results. He bested challenger John Funk, a real estate broker, in a heated race marked by high tension and attack mailers.

Retired building contractor David Allbritton defeated advertising salesman Tom Keller with 8,028 votes, or 67 percent of the electorate, in the tamer race for Seat 4 being vacated by the term-limited Bill Jonson.
